At Apogee(At Apogee)I thought I saw a starfish
Traveling at warp speed
Its wake spelled out a message
I don't know how to read
The sun is far below me
A distant twinkling seed
Spiral revolution
Fulfills my constant need
I don't believe what everybody tells me
That I should breathe closer to my own
Way out beyond the gravity of Saturn
A zenith in the pattern
Living to the eminent degree
At apogee
The window of my igloo
Affords a fancy view
An icy white horizon
A galaxy or two
The constellations warm me
More than people do
Divisions of the future
Ever coming through
I don't believe what everybody tells me
That I should breathe closer to my own
Way out beyond the orbit-path of Pluto
Knowing what I do know
I could be content with a destiny
At apogee
The Earth's a tiny object
Against a giant sky
The human creatures on it
All predisposed to die
My sad forsaken species
Always wondering why
Longing for perfection
Wishing they could fly
I don't believe what everybody tells me
That I should breathe closer to my own
Way out beyond the limits of the System
A self-existing prism
Sitting where it's easier to see:
At apogee
I am old and gray
Severed and then cast away
Like the sky-god with a hidden face
Lord of empty space
A nebula prevents
The discovery I fear
Andromeda looms larger
With every passing year
Half satellite-half pilgrim
Never really here
A phantom simulacrum
Born to disappear
I don't believe what everybody tells me
That I should breathe closer to my own
Way out beyond the spirit of the Zero
A disembodied hero
It's the way I'm mostly prone to be:
At apogee
